What If.....?

Over the past months we've been glued in front of our television sets watching CNN carefully looking at the primaries and now the campaign for Presidency. Could anyone ever have imagined a woman President or even an African American President? It was surreal to think that America has finally moved on from the gender and racial discrepancies. Record numbers of Democratic voters came out to show that America was ready for "Change." I'm especially proud of all the African Americans that finally came out to the polls to show their support for either candidates. Just the excitement alone about what Hillary and Barack were embarking on was nothing I have ever seen in politics. We seen the Obama Girl videos, rappers like Common and Ludacris sending the message of "Change" from the pages of Obama in their lyrics. Hell, we've even seen the youtube videos of little babies saying "Obama."

Wow, there is something powerful happening in America right now. Michelle Obama said it best "Never in my adult life have I been so proud to be an American." Hell, I've never had an political figures t-shirt, but now I got two Obama shirts. Think about the last time you paid this must attention to politics. I've heard some people say this is the first time I'm ever going to vote, and I know many others, most importantly African Americans, that are going to be first time voters. Man, you really can see the pride in our faces when we think about Senator Obama as our President. Something that we can hold our heads up proudly about as African Americans, that will make a change for our generation.

But…….. What if?

What if Senator Obama doesn’t win the election? Then what? Is this our only chance to ever see an African American as President of the United States? Was Senator Clinton the only woman that will ever have the opportunity to get that close to the big ticket? I think about all the Americans right now that are so into this election. How will America cope with Obama not being our President? Imagine all the first time voters, and African Americans that finally stood up and showed that we have some say-so in the US. Can you imagine the utterly letdown. Will we go back into hiding when election comes around again in another four years? How will the world look at us, as they have clearly embraced Barack Obama as the "New Hope." I don't know about you but I'm not too confident in our electro system. There are forces unseen that just don't want America to change for the better.
So I end this asking this question. If Senator Barack Obama does not win the election, what will you do to make sure he wins in another four years? And I'm only writing this as a…. What if?

I'm glad this topic was brought up. Even if Obama doesn't win, he has opened the door and given hope to minorities that it is possible to reach great heights such as the presidency. It just goes to show how far this country has come that he has even made it this far. The best part is not simply that he is a minority candidate but that he seems to be the best candidate. I have never voted and for the first time I really feel like I should because I don't see how we can elect a 72 year old man who opposes tax increases for richer americans and is also against better health care if I understand correctly. I just hope the voters can see that Obama appears to be the best answer for the next four years and that this election is not decided on the basis of race alone.

Even if Obama doesn't win alot has still been accomplished with this election. People who could careless about politics prior to this have really gotten into it. Just to see Obama get this far before even winning the election is giving kids, teenagers and adults all over the "audacity to hope" for something whether its a better living enviornment to going to college. To alot of people, now the sky is really limit-less.

If Obama doesn't win I think it may leave a sour taste in a few mouths but overrall I think his success will inspire people than
anything. Just from him making history by accepting the presidental nomination, somebody somewhere is attempting to follow in his footseps, now we just have to keep the ball rolling.

i decided to respond as a pessimist, because no matter how positive a situation could be, there will always be those who view it differently.

if Obama does not win, a lot of those 1st time voters, and people who came out the woodworks just to vote may disappear. if he doesn't win there will be speculations that "perhaps he was cheated", "the votes were rigged",etc..which would mean our votes truly don't even matter.

there will be some who feels like no matter how close they let him get, they will not allow a minority to be President. it could be the end of the spark of hope that we felt for awhile.

good thing he's going to win... ;)
